Snappers Take Two from Bobcats at Southwest Park

Frontier Community College struggled to keep pace with Spoon River College in an 8-1 loss Saturday at Southwest Park.
The Snappers struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a single by Karagan Hartnett. Spoon River added another run in the third when CJ Troxell grounded into a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 2-0.
Spoon River continued to apply pressure throughout the game, finishing with 13 hits.
Jessie Ketola earned the win for the Snappers, allowing just three hits and one run over 6.2 innings while striking out 17 and walking two. For FCC, Chloe Papineau took the loss, going the distance and allowing eight runs (six earned) on 13 hits, with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Alicia Stanley drove in Frontier's lone run, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate. Stanley, Papineau, and Alaira Friese each recorded a hit for the Bobcats, who also turned a double play defensively.
Hartnett led Spoon River with three hits, while Kenadee Allensworth and Justice Krus added multiple-hit performances. The Snappers were clean defensively, committing no errors, with Olivia Lindsay leading the way with 10 chances in the field.
Game 2 – Spoon River College 8, FCC 2
The Bobcats dropped the second game of the doubleheader, falling 8-2 to Spoon River College.
Frontier got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning when Chloe Papineau lifted a sacrifice fly to score a run. However, the Snappers responded in the second inning with a four-run frame. Karsyn Skaggs drove in a run with a single, Hartnett followed with a two-run double, and Justice Krus added an RBI single to make it 4-1.
FCC added another run in the fourth inning on a solo home run to left field by Harper Holeman.
Lexi Miller took the loss for the Bobcats, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing five runs (none earned) on four hits while striking out three and walking four. Olivia Young earned the win for Spoon River, giving up three hits and two runs over seven innings with seven strikeouts.
Papineau and Holeman each drove in a run for Frontier, while Holeman led the Bobcats with two hits in three at-bats. FCC also turned a double play defensively.
For the Snappers, Skaggs recorded two hits, while Hartnett drove in three runs. Spoon River showed patience at the plate with five walks and once again played error-free defense. CJ Troxell led the team with seven defensive chances.

Following the doubleheader, the Bobcats fall to 0-10 overall on the season.
Frontier Community College returns to action with a busy week ahead. FCC will travel to Wabash Valley College on Wednesday, March 18 for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The Bobcats return home Thursday to host Southwestern Illinois College at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, Frontier heads to Harrisburg to face Southeastern Illinois College at noon, before wrapping up the week Sunday at Kaskaskia College in Centralia for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
