Bobcats Sweep SWIC for First Wins of the Season
The Frontier Community College Bobcats softball team earned its first two wins of the season on Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader against SWIC at Southwest Park.
FAIRFIELD, Ill. – The Frontier Community College Bobcats softball team earned its first two wins of the season on Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader against SWIC at Southwest Park.
Game 1 – Frontier 6, SWIC 4
Frontier jumped out early and never looked back in a 6-4 victory over the Storm in the opener.
The Bobcats set the tone in the bottom of the first inning, plating four runs behind key hits from Harper Holeman, Alicia Stanley, and Riley Baumgart. Holeman doubled to bring in a run, Stanley followed with an RBI single, and Baumgart added a two-run single to give FCC an early cushion.
Holeman continued her strong performance at the plate in the fifth inning, launching a solo home run to left field to extend the Frontier lead.
Lexi Miller earned the win in the circle for the Bobcats, tossing four innings while allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking two. Emmy Vinson came on in relief to help secure the victory.
Baumgart and Holeman each collected two hits and drove in two runs to lead the FCC offense, while the Bobcats also applied pressure on the base paths with three stolen bases.
For SWIC, Tally Cockburn drove in two runs, while Abby Schultz and Colleen Jahnke each recorded two hits. The Storm were disciplined at the plate, drawing four walks, and played clean defense without committing an error.
Game 2 – Frontier 4, SWIC 2
The Bobcats completed the sweep with a 4-2 win in the second game of the doubleheader.
After a scoreless start, Frontier broke through in the fourth inning when Baumgart delivered an RBI single to put FCC on the board.
SWIC responded in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2, using a sacrifice fly from Addie Wernsing and an RBI single from Cockburn.
Frontier answered in the sixth inning as Kyndall Webb ripped a double down the left field line and Alaira Friese followed with an RBI single to regain the lead for the Bobcats.
Chloe Papineau turned in a strong complete-game performance for Frontier, allowing just two runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out four and walking one.
Baumgart, Papineau, and Rylee Hendricks each recorded two hits for FCC, while Friese, Hessi Johnson, Webb, and Baumgart each drove in a run.
Cockburn and Wernsing each tallied an RBI for the Storm, with Cockburn leading SWIC with two hits.
