Brooms Out: Bobcats Sweep SIC in Style
Frontier Community College Bobcats Softball team earned a 7-3 victory over SIC in Game 1 of a doubleheader held Saturday, March 21.
Game 1 – Frontier 7, SIC 3
HARRISBURG, Ill. – Frontier Community College Bobcats Softball team earned a 7-3 victory over SIC in Game 1 of a doubleheader held Saturday, March 21.
The Bobcats were led by Peyton Smith, who collected three hits in four at-bats, including a double in the seventh inning and singles in the first and third.
Frontier opened the scoring in the first inning when Alicia Stanley doubled to drive in a run. The Bobcats added to their lead in the third inning with two runs on RBI flyouts from Harper Holeman and Stanley.
Lexi Miller picked up the win in the circle for Frontier, allowing seven hits and three runs (one earned) over seven innings while striking out seven and walking five. SIC's Mia Bobbitt took the loss, giving up six hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings.
Stanley led the Bobcats with two RBIs while going 3-for-4 at the plate. Smith and Stanley each recorded three hits, and Kyndall Webb drew two walks as Frontier showed patience at the plate with four total walks.
On the bases, Chloe Papineau and Smith each stole multiple bases as the Bobcats totaled five stolen bases in the game.
For SIC, Hope Newell recorded two hits from the leadoff spot, while Newell and Lacie Carr each drove in a run. Aubrey Holmes drew two walks as the Falcons collected five walks as a team.
Game 2 – Frontier 19, SIC 0
Frontier completed the doubleheader sweep in dominant fashion, defeating SIC 19-0 in Game 2.
The Bobcats took control early in the second inning when Emmy Vinson singled to score one run, followed by a two-run double from Peyton Smith.
Frontier broke the game open in the third inning, scoring seven runs on six hits. Rylee Hendricks doubled in a run, Riley Baumgart added an RBI single, Kyndall Webb drove in two with a double, Smith delivered a two-run single, and Holeman added a sacrifice fly.
The Bobcats added nine more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Chloe Papineau. Additional RBIs came from Stanley, Hendricks, Baumgart, Olivia Smith, Webb, and Kayleigh Fodge.
Papineau earned the win in the circle, tossing five shutout innings while allowing three hits, striking out four, and walking two. SIC's Lacie Carr took the loss after allowing nine hits and eight runs over two innings.
Frontier totaled 19 hits in the game. Hendricks and Vinson each had three hits, while Smith went 2-for-3 with a team-high four RBIs. Webb, Baumgart, Stanley, and others contributed multiple hits as the Bobcats' offense stayed hot throughout.
The Bobcats also showed discipline at the plate with six walks and added three stolen bases. Defensively, Frontier was flawless, committing no errors, with Webb leading the way with four plays.
For SIC, Kaylee Flannigan, Chelsi Miskelley, and Branson Hill each recorded a hit.
