Lakers Sweep Bobcats in Doubleheader at Southwest Park
The Frontier Community College Bobcats Softball team hosted the Lake Land Lakers at Southwest Park on Thursday, April 2 in Fairfield for a doubleheader.
The FCC Bobcats Softball team hosted the Lake Land Lakers at Southwest Park on Thursday, April 2 in Fairfield for a doubleheader.
Game 1 – Lake Land 9, FCC 1
The Bobcats struggled to keep pace with the Lakers, falling 9-1 in the opener.
Lake Land jumped out early in the top of the first inning, stringing together extra-base hits and timely offense to plate multiple runs and take control of the game.
Emma Thomas earned the win for the Lakers, allowing just two hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings while striking out five. Emmy Vinson took the loss for FCC, going five innings and allowing nine runs (three earned) on 10 hits.
Chloe Papineau led the Bobcats with an RBI, while Kyndall Webb and Rayonna Ridley each recorded a hit.
Lake Land was paced offensively by Kierra Johnson, Alison Pangburn, and Madalynn Rosenbery, who each collected two hits. The Lakers also applied pressure on the basepaths, finishing with three stolen bases.
Game 2 – Lake Land 8, FCC 3
In game two, the Bobcats again fell behind early and could not recover in an 8-3 loss.
The Lakers opened the scoring in the first inning and added to their lead in the third to build early momentum.
Chloe Papineau started in the circle for FCC, tossing five innings and allowing six runs (four earned) while striking out four. Makenna Ondrey earned the win for Lake Land, giving up three runs (zero earned) over five and two-thirds innings with six strikeouts.
Papineau also contributed offensively, driving in two runs for the Bobcats. Peyton Smith led FCC at the plate with two hits.
Rosenbery continued her strong day for the Lakers with two hits, while Jenna Wehmer and Macy Pries each drove in two runs. Lake Land once again capitalized on aggressive baserunning, finishing with four stolen bases and turning a double play defensively.
