Bobcats Show Fight, But JALC Completes Sweep
The Frontier Community College Bobcats softball team traveled to Carterville on Tuesday, April 7, to take on the John A. Logan College Volunteers, looking to bounce back from a previous doubleheader loss earlier this season.

Game 1 – JALC 4, FCC 3
The Bobcats came out aggressive and struck first in the opening inning, manufacturing a run on a steal of home to take an early lead. Frontier added to that advantage in the second inning when Rayonna Ridley drove in a run on a groundout, making it 2-0.
JALC answered in the bottom of the third, tying the game with timely execution, including an RBI single by Ava Adcock and a run-scoring groundout by Audrey Upton.
The Volunteers took the lead in the fourth inning when Adcock delivered again with an RBI single to make it 3-2.
Lexi Miller took the loss for FCC, going four innings while allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Peyton Smith paced the Bobcats offensively with two hits from the leadoff spot and added two stolen bases as part of a three-steal effort by Frontier. Defensively, the Bobcats were solid, committing no errors, with Riley Baumgart leading the way with six fielding chances.
For JALC, Ava Adcock led the charge, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while the Volunteers used aggressive baserunning to their advantage, tallying seven stolen bases in the game.
Game 2 – JALC 7, FCC 1
JALC carried its momentum into game two, jumping out to an early lead in the first inning by capitalizing on a double-play ball that still resulted in two runs scoring.
The Volunteers extended their lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Ava Adcock, pushing the advantage to 4-0.
FCC broke through in the fourth inning when Alicia Stanley launched a solo home run to left field, providing the Bobcats' lone run of the game.
Chloe Papineau went the distance in the circle for Frontier, allowing seven runs (four earned) over six innings. Offensively, Stanley led FCC with the RBI, while Rylee Hendricks and Kyndall Webb each recorded two hits. The Bobcats also turned a double play defensively.
JALC's Breanna Thurman earned the complete-game victory, allowing one run on eight hits. Ava Adcock continued her standout performance, finishing with three RBIs, while the Volunteers once again applied pressure on the basepaths with four stolen bases and played error-free defense.
With the losses, FCC falls to 9-23 overall and 9-15 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday, April 10, traveling to Canton, Illinois, for a doubleheader against Spoon River College with first pitch set for 12 p.m. Frontier will then host Wabash Valley College on Saturday at Southwest Park in Fairfield at 12 p.m., followed by another home doubleheader on Sunday against Shawnee Community College, also beginning at noon.
