Coach Jeremy Ellis and his Bobcats Softball team hosted SIC at Southwest Park on a sunny Thursday afternoon. Frontier entered the day looking to complete another sweep of the Falcons after taking two games on the road back on March 21—and did just that with a dominant doubleheader performance.
Game 1 – Frontier 9, SIC 3
Frontier powered its way to a 9-3 victory behind a perfect day at the plate from Hessi Johnson, who went 4-for-4. Johnson homered to left in the fourth inning, doubled in the sixth, and added two singles to lead the Bobcats' offensive surge.
The Bobcats broke the game open in the third inning, plating six runs. An SIC error got the scoring started, followed by a two-run single from Johnson. Kayleigh Fodge and Peyton Smith each delivered RBI singles, and Alicia Stanley added a sacrifice fly to cap the inning.
SIC struck first in the top of the first inning, using a groundout by Lacie Carr and an RBI double from Branson Hill to take an early 2-0 lead. Frontier answered and never looked back, adding another run in the fourth on Johnson's solo home run.
Lexi Miller earned the win for Frontier, tossing a complete game. The left-hander allowed six hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out five and walking two.
Frontier finished with 13 hits in the game, with Fodge, Kyndall Webb, and Smith each collecting multiple hits. For SIC, Kiera Dorash and Branson Hill each had two hits and drove in a run.
Game 2 – Frontier 9, SIC 0 (5 innings)
Frontier continued its strong play in game two, rolling to a 9-0 run-rule victory over SIC.
The Bobcats jumped out early in the first inning, capitalizing on an SIC error before Chloe Papineau and Johnson each delivered RBI singles to build a quick lead. Frontier added another run in the second and extended the advantage in the third with an RBI single from Fodge and a sacrifice bunt by Rayonna Ridley.
Papineau earned the win in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout over five innings. She allowed just three hits while striking out three and walking none.
Johnson led the Bobcats offensively once again, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Smith added speed on the basepaths with two stolen bases as Frontier totaled four steals in the game.
Hope Newell led SIC with two hits from the leadoff spot.
With the sweep, Frontier improves to 13-27 overall and 13-19 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. The Bobcats were originally scheduled to travel to SCC on Saturday, April 18, but that doubleheader has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 2, with first pitch set for 12 p.m. Frontier will return to action at home on Tuesday, April 21, hosting Rend Lake in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
