Frontier Community College has named Gael Salinas and Hessi Johnson as this week’s Bobcats of the Week following standout performances that led both baseball and softball to key conference victories.
FAIRFIELD, Ill. – Frontier Community College has named Gael Salinas and Hessi Johnson as this week's Bobcats of the Week following standout performances that led both baseball and softball to key conference victories.
The redshirt-sophomore Salinas played a pivotal role in one of the most exciting wins of the season, helping lift the Bobcats to an 11-10 comeback victory over Lincoln Trail on the road on Tuesday, April 14. Salinas went 3-for-5 at the plate, recording singles in the first and fifth innings before delivering a clutch RBI double down the left field line in the ninth inning to ignite Frontier's game-winning rally.
He carried that momentum into the Bobcats' doubleheader sweep of Rend Lake on Friday, April 17, collecting multiple hits in game one and adding another hit and RBI in game two. Salinas provided consistency in the lineup, delivering timely at-bats and producing in key moments throughout the week. His performance was instrumental in helping Frontier secure important conference wins during a competitive stretch of the season.
On the softball side, freshman Hessi Johnson turned in a dominant all-around week to help lead the Bobcats in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play. Johnson highlighted her performance with a perfect 4-for-4 outing in Frontier's 9-3 victory over Southeastern Illinois College on Thursday, April 16, blasting a solo home run to left field while adding a double, two singles, and multiple RBIs.
She continued her strong play in game two of the doubleheader, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the Bobcats secured a 9-0 run-rule victory to complete the sweep. Johnson remained a consistent offensive force throughout the week, including Frontier's split with Southwestern Illinois College on Tuesday, April 14, showcasing her ability to hit for both power and average.
Her production, combined with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning, helped the Bobcats maintain momentum during a busy stretch of conference play.
