It feels like just yesterday the season began with a trip south to open the year.
It feels like just yesterday the season began with a trip south to open the year. Fast forward to Saturday, April 25, and it was the final home date of the regular season—and Sophomore Day—for Coach Jeremy Ellis and his Bobcats Softball team as Frontier Community College welcomed Lincoln Trail College to Southwest Park.
Game 1 – Frontier 1, Lincoln Trail 0
Runs were hard to come by in the opener, but FCC did just enough behind a dominant performance in the circle to secure a 1-0 victory over LT.
An early run proved to be the difference, as the Bobcats plated the game's only score in the second inning on an RBI single.
Lexi Miller was outstanding for Frontier, going the distance and recording all 21 outs. The left-hander allowed six hits, struck out seven, and walked just one in the shutout effort.
Offensively, Kyndall Webb drove in the lone run, finishing 1-for-2 at the plate. Webb and Chloe Papineau each recorded a hit for the Bobcats. Defensively, Frontier was flawless, committing no errors, with Alicia Stanley leading the way with eight chances.
For Lincoln Trail, Lily Hickman was strong in the circle, allowing just two hits and one unearned run over six innings. Hickman also led LT at the plate with two hits in three at-bats.
Game 2 – Lincoln Trail 7, Frontier 1
Lincoln Trail responded in game two, using a big first inning to pull away for a 7-1 win over FCC.
The Statesmen wasted no time getting on the board, scoring five runs in the opening frame. Katie Didion delivered a two-run single, followed by a three-run home run to left field by Lexie Jenkins to give LT early control.
Kaitlyn Kendall earned the win for Lincoln Trail, tossing a complete game while allowing six hits and one unearned run. She struck out three and walked one.
Emmy Vinson took the loss for the Bobcats, pitching all seven innings. She allowed seven runs on 13 hits while striking out three and walking one.
At the plate, Vinson and Peyton Smith each collected two hits to lead Frontier. Harper Holeman added an RBI, accounting for the Bobcats' lone run. Frontier also turned a double play defensively.
Lincoln Trail tallied 13 hits in the contest, led by leadoff hitter Elahna Perry, who went 3-for-4. Jenkins drove in three runs, while Didion and Alina Alford each recorded multiple hits. The Statesmen were aggressive on the bases with three stolen bases and were clean defensively, committing no errors. Alexis Grindstaff led LT with nine fielding chances.
