Bobcats Fall to Spoon River in Road Doubleheader
Following Sophomore Day at Southwest Park in Fairfield on Saturday, Coach Jeremy Ellis and the Frontier Community College Bobcats Softball team faced a quick turnaround, traveling north to Canton, Illinois on Sunday to take on the Spoon River Snappers, who entered the day sitting third in Region 24.

Game 1 – Spoon River 4, Frontier 1
The Bobcats fell 4-1 to the Snappers in the opening game of the doubleheader.
Spoon River struck first in the third inning, capitalizing on an error that brought home two runs. That early momentum proved to be enough as the Snappers controlled the game the rest of the way.
Chloe Papineau started in the circle for Frontier, pitching six innings while allowing six hits and four runs (one earned), with four strikeouts and two walks. Olivia Young earned the win for Spoon River, limiting the Bobcats to four hits and one run over 4.1 innings, while striking out five without issuing a walk.
Frontier scattered six hits in the game, with Rylee Hendricks, Kayleigh Fodge, Papineau, Kyndall Webb, Emmy Vinson, and Harper Holeman each recording one. Vinson drove in the Bobcats' lone run, finishing 1-for-2 at the plate. Defensively, Frontier turned a double play.
Spoon River was led offensively by Lauren Herbst and Karagan Hartnett, who each collected two hits. Hartnett also added an RBI. The Snappers played clean defense, committing no errors, while CJ Troxell led the way with nine defensive chances.
Game 2 – Spoon River 9, Frontier 3
In the second game, Frontier jumped out early but couldn't hold off Spoon River, falling 9-3.
The Bobcats struck first in the opening inning when Harper Holeman launched a two-run home run to left field. However, Spoon River responded immediately, taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom half on a home run by Mallory Rosendahl.
The Snappers continued to build momentum, adding two more runs in the second inning as Rosendahl delivered again with an RBI single.
Lexi Miller got the start in the circle for Frontier, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing 10 hits and nine runs (seven earned), while striking out six and walking four. Isabella Passmore earned the win for Spoon River, going 6.2 innings while allowing five hits and three runs with three strikeouts.
Offensively, Holeman led the Bobcats with two RBIs, while Peyton Smith recorded a team-high two hits.
Spoon River totaled 11 hits in the game, led by a standout performance from Mallory Rosendahl, who went 3-for-3 with five RBIs. CJ Troxell and Karagan Hartnett each added multiple hits, while Justice Krus drew two walks as the Snappers showed strong plate discipline.
With the losses, Frontier moves to 15-31 overall and 15-21 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. The Bobcats remain in postseason position, currently sitting eighth in the conference standings, with the top eight teams qualifying.
Frontier will look to bounce back on Thursday, April 30, as the Bobcats travel to Mattoon to take on the Lake Land Lakers in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m., weather permitting. The games were originally scheduled for Tuesday but have been postponed.
