Lakers Complete Season Sweep Over Bobcats

Coach Jeremy Ellis and his Frontier Community College Bobcats Softball team wrapped up the month of April with a road trip to Lake Land College in Mattoon, where they faced the Lakers. Earlier this month, Lake Land swept Frontier at Southwest Park on April 2, and the Lakers completed the season sweep on Thursday.
Game 1 – Lake Land 9, Frontier 1
Frontier struggled to keep pace early as Lake Land jumped out in front in the opening inning, taking advantage of a groundout and a walk that each brought in a run. The Lakers added to their lead in the second with timely hitting, extending the margin and maintaining control throughout.
Makenna Ondrey earned the win for Lake Land, allowing one run on six hits over five innings while striking out seven. Chloe Papineau took the loss for FCC, working four and one-third innings and allowing nine runs, six earned.
Kyndall Webb drove in Frontier's lone run, finishing 1-for-2, while Hessi Johnson led the Bobcats with two hits. Lake Land's offense was paced by Faye Brill and Karasyn Martin, who each collected two hits. Brill, Martin, and Madalynn Rosenbery each recorded two RBIs, while the Lakers also showcased aggressive baserunning and plate discipline.
Game 2 – Lake Land 7, Frontier 0
The Lakers carried their momentum into game two, scoring three runs in the first inning and capitalizing on an error in the second to extend the lead to 5-0.
Emma Thomas earned the win for Lake Land, tossing a three-hit shutout over five innings with five strikeouts. Lexi Miller took the loss for Frontier, pitching six innings and allowing seven runs, though only two were earned.
Chloe Papineau and Harper Holeman each recorded two hits to lead the Bobcats offensively, and Frontier turned a double play defensively.
Lake Land was led by Madalynn Rosenbery, who drove in four runs, while Karasyn Martin went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and added two stolen bases. The Lakers played clean defense and applied constant pressure on the basepaths.
With the losses, Frontier moves to 16-34 overall and 16-24 in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play. The Bobcats will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, May 2, traveling to Shawnee for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
