Bobcats Sweep SCC to Close Regular Season, Advance to Postseason Play

The Shawnee Community College Saints visited Southwest Park in Fairfield on Sunday, April 12, for a doubleheader against Coach Jeremy Ellis' Bobcats. Shawnee took the opener, 16-7, before Frontier responded with a 4-3 win in game two. Fast forward to early May, heading into the final doubleheader of the regular season on the road on Saturday, May 2, FCC looked to close the schedule strong with a sweep of the Saints.
Game 1: Frontier 6, SCC 5
Frontier built an early lead and held off a late SCC rally to earn a 6-5 win in game one on Saturday.
The Bobcats got on the board in the top of the third inning with a big offensive frame. Chloe Papineau doubled to drive in one run, Alicia Stanley followed with a two-run double, Rylee Hendricks added an RBI double, and Kyndall Webb singled to bring in another run.
FCC carried a 6-0 lead into the final inning before the Saints made things interesting. SCC scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh, with Drew Besheres recording an RBI single, another run scoring on an error, and Summerlee Elders tripling to drive in three runs. Frontier was able to close the door and secure the one-run victory.
Lexi Miller earned the win for the Bobcats. The left-hander allowed four hits and five runs, four earned, over seven innings while striking out nine and walking two.
Frontier finished with 11 hits in the game. Stanley led the Bobcats with two RBIs, while Webb, Harper Holeman, and Peyton Smith each collected two hits.
For the Saints, Elders led the way with three RBIs. Elders, Shelby Grove, Besheres, and Merriel Jackson each recorded one hit for SCC.
Game 2: Frontier 9, SCC 8
The Bobcats completed the sweep with another one-run victory, holding off the Saints for a 9-8 win in game two.
Frontier opened the scoring in the first inning when Alicia Stanley singled to bring in one run. SCC answered in the bottom of the second as Madaline Norton singled to right field, tying the game at 1-1.
FCC broke the game open in the top of the third, taking a 5-1 lead. Stanley reached on a fielder's choice that allowed a run to score, Hessi Johnson added a sacrifice fly, and Kyndall Webb singled to drive in two runs.
Harper Holeman helped lead the Bobcats at the plate, finishing with three hits in four at-bats. Holeman doubled in the third inning and added singles in the sixth and seventh innings.
Chloe Papineau earned the win for Frontier. She allowed 14 hits and eight runs, four earned, over seven innings while striking out four and walking two.
FCC totaled 13 hits in the victory. Webb, Holeman, and Stanley each drove in two runs, while Emmy Vinson added two hits. The Bobcats also tallied three stolen bases and turned two double plays.
SCC finished with 14 hits. Norton led the Saints with three hits in four at-bats. Elders, Norton, and Kayden Glover each drove in two runs, while Grove, Jackson, and Kylie Kleppin each collected multiple hits. Kleppin also stole two bases.
With the sweep, Bobcats Softball wraps up the regular season with an 18-34 overall record and an 18-24 mark in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play. After finishing seventh in the top eight of Region 24, Frontier advances to postseason play. More postseason information will be available at fccbobcats.com.
