Frontier Keeps Postseason Run Alive with 3-1 Win Over Kaskaskia
After splitting two games Tuesday in the Region 24 postseason tournament, Coach Jeremy Ellis and the Frontier Community College softball team had to regroup quickly for a 9:30 a.m. matchup Wednesday morning against Kaskaskia College at Southwestern Illinois College.
BELLEVILLE, Ill. – After splitting two games Tuesday in the Region 24 postseason tournament, Coach Jeremy Ellis and the Frontier Community College softball team had to regroup quickly for a 9:30 a.m. matchup Wednesday morning against Kaskaskia College at Southwestern Illinois College.
The Bobcats responded with a strong performance in a pitcher's duel, defeating the Blue Angels 3-1 to keep their postseason run alive.
FCC got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after a steal of home brought in the game's first run. Kaskaskia tied the game in the top of the third when Taryn Griffith hit a sacrifice fly, making it 1-1.
Frontier regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Harper Holeman doubled to drive in a run, giving the Bobcats a 2-1 advantage. FCC added another run and held KC scoreless the rest of the way to secure the win.
Lexi Miller earned the win in the circle for Frontier. She went the distance, allowing five hits and one run over seven innings while striking out one and walking one.
Sydney Charlton took the loss for Kaskaskia. She pitched six innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking five.
Holeman and Peyton Smith led the Bobcats at the plate with two hits each. Both also drove in one run for Frontier. Chloe Papineau drew two walks, helping FCC collect five walks as a team.
The Bobcats were active on the base paths, finishing with three stolen bases, including two from Smith. Defensively, Frontier turned one double play and played error-free softball. Kyndall Webb led FCC with six defensive chances.
For the Blue Angels, Zoey Thomason, Griffith, Allie Sarver, Emma Janning, and Izzy Light each recorded one hit. Griffith went 1-for-2 and drove in KC's lone run. Kaskaskia also turned one double play and did not commit an error.
The Bobcats will play tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. at SWIC. The opponent is TBD.
