Marty Slover is a lifelong coach entering his 41st year of coaching. He chose to retire from head coaching and is now the assistant coach for Frontier Bobcats Softball where he had compiled a record of 104-177 in six seasons as head coach. Under Coach Slover’s direction the Bobcats have made the NJCAA Region-24 post season six times.
From 1981-1984 Slover spent 4 years as a bird dog scout for legendary scout Jerome "Mimi" Alongi with the Texas Rangers before entering the field of coaching and education.
Slover grew up on a small farm in Orchardville, Illinois and is a lifelong resident of Wayne County, Illinois. He is an alumni of Frontier Community College and Eastern Illinois University where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education with minors in math, science and history.
Coach Slover is married to Kelly Boyd Slover and together they have 5 children – Ryan (yes, he was named after Nolan Ryan), Brea, Colton, Kylar and Peyton.
Coach Slover is a devout Christian, die-hard St. Louis Cardinal fan and collector of baseball memorabilia. Slover enjoys being with family, watching sports, watching his kids sports and activities, hunting when he can, fishing and firing up his BBQ smokers.
Slover is a believer in hard work, dedication and commitment to accomplish your goals because nothing will work unless you do.
His favorite quotes are-
"It's hard to beat a person who never gives up."
-Babe Ruth
"The only place you will find success before work is in the dictionary. "
