After a demanding stretch of three matches last week against Lake Land, Southwestern Illinois, and John A. Logan, the Frontier Community College Bobcats volleyball team took advantage of a short break before returning to action on Wednesday, September 24. Playing in front of a great crowd at Center Street School, the Bobcats faced the Southeastern Illinois College Falcons of Harrisburg for the first time this season.
Frontier came out on top with a straight-set victory, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18, improving to 9-10 overall and 4-4 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. The Falcons, meanwhile, dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the GRAC.
The opening set was tightly contested, with neither team building much of a lead early on. With Frontier ahead 16-15, the Bobcats surged with a 3-0 run that forced SIC head coach Jon Watts to call timeout. The momentum carried through as the Bobcats closed on a 9-3 stretch to secure the first set, 25-18.
The second set followed a similar script, as both teams traded points before SIC pulled ahead 13-8. Frontier battled back with consecutive runs to tie the score at 15, then took control with key rallies down the stretch. Despite the Falcons cutting the deficit to one at 19-18, the Bobcats held firm and claimed the set 25-20.
In the final frame, the Falcons jumped out to an 8-4 lead, but Frontier responded with a 4-0 run to even things up. From there, the Bobcats built a 15-10 advantage and, despite a late SIC push, finished strong with a 5-0 closing run to win 25-18 and sealed the sweep.
Frontier will return to action on Monday, September 29, hosting the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels at Center Street School. The matchup will be a chance at redemption after KC's three-set win in Centralia earlier this month. Fans unable to attend can catch the game live on Bobcat Nation YouTube channel.
