Bobcats Sweep Tri-Match at Center Street; Honor Three Sophomores
The Frontier Community College Bobcats Volleyball team hosted a home tri-match against Shawnee and East Central College on Friday, October 3, at Center Street School.
The Frontier Community College Bobcats Volleyball team hosted a home tri-match against Shawnee and East Central College on Friday, October 3, at Center Street School. The evening began with Sophomore Recognition, as the program honored three second-year players—Arlissa Sharber, Camdyn Tappendorf, and Olivia Brummer—for their dedication and leadership both on and off the court.
The Bobcats came out strong in their opening matchup against Shawnee, taking control early and never looking back.
In the first set, both teams traded points before Frontier went on a 5-0 run to take a 7-2 lead. Shawnee briefly halted the surge, but the Bobcats maintained their momentum, stretching their advantage to 12-6. Despite the Saints' attempts to rally, Frontier closed out the set decisively, 25-14.
The second set was a much tighter contest. Shawnee jumped ahead 6-2, forcing Acting Head Coach Kera Vinson to call a timeout. The Saints extended their lead to 8-2 before the Bobcats began to battle back, narrowing the deficit to 13-11. Trailing 22-17 late, Frontier mounted an impressive comeback—tying the score at 22, taking the lead at 23-22, and completing the rally with a 25-23 win.
In the third set, Frontier wasted no time regaining control. After an early tie, the Bobcats went on an 8-4 surge, followed by another 3-0 run to build an 11-4 lead. Shawnee tried to respond, but the Bobcats' energy and execution carried them to a dominant 25-12 finish, securing the sweep.
The second match of the evening featured Shawnee against East Central College, with ECC taking the victory in four sets: 24-26, 25-22, 34-32, 25-14.
In the nightcap, the Bobcats returned to face East Central College and delivered another impressive performance, sweeping the Falcons in straight sets.
Frontier jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set, forcing an early ECC timeout. The Bobcats continued their surge, extending the margin to 10-3 and later 18-9 before closing out the set 25-14.
The second set was all Frontier, as the Bobcats built an 8-2 lead and never looked back. Their energy and precision on both sides of the ball pushed the score to 20-7 before finishing off the set, 25-10.
The Falcons showed more fight in the third set, grabbing an early 7-2 lead. Coach Vinson called a timeout, and her team responded quickly—cutting the deficit to 9-7 and tying the score at 11. Frontier took its first lead at 12-11 and battled point-for-point down the stretch. With the score close at 22-21, the Bobcats made one final push to claim the set 25-21 and the match sweep.
With both victories, Frontier improved to 12-11 overall and 6-5 in conference play, as the match against Shawnee counted toward the GRAC standings. The Bobcats will return to action on Monday, October 6, traveling to Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois, with first serve set for 6:30 p.m. The Bobcats will also hit the road this week, traveling to Lincoln Trail on Wednesday and Southeastern Illinois on Friday.
