Frontier Drops Nail-Biter to #24 Warriors

Tuesday's matchup against #24 Wabash Valley College was a heartbreaker for Frontier Community College in Mt. Carmel, as the Bobcats saw a late lead slip away in a 9-8 loss. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the eighth when Bryce Adams laid down a sacrifice bunt, bringing home the go-ahead run for the Warriors.
Despite the loss, Frontier tallied nine hits in a high-scoring contest, while WVC finished with 11 on the day.
The Bobcats came out swinging in the top of the first inning. Mayes Gosser doubled to drive in two runs, Josh French added a sacrifice bunt RBI, Justin Early followed with an RBI double, and Dillon James capped the inning with another RBI double to give FCC an early advantage.
WVC answered in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run to left by Enrico Veach after a seven-pitch at-bat.
The Warriors evened things up in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a series of timely hits and an error, including singles from Leandro Hernandez, Andrew Dixon, and Drake Defreitas.
Aaron Buffington got the start for Frontier, allowing five hits and two runs over three innings while striking out six and walking four. Brendan Mullin started on the mound for WVC, giving up six hits and seven runs (four earned) across five innings with two strikeouts and five walks.
At the plate, the Bobcats were led by Mayes Gosser, who drove in two runs, and Gael Salinas, who recorded two hits in four at-bats. Jordan Carter showed patience at the plate with three walks, helping FCC total seven walks in the game.
WVC was led offensively by Leandro Hernandez, who went 3-for-5, while Drake Defreitas added two hits. Brady Schallmoser drew three walks as the Warriors totaled nine free passes. WVC also created pressure on the basepaths with three stolen bases and turned one double play defensively.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 21-9 overall and 8-4 in Region 24 play.
