Bobcats Unable to Hold Lead in Loss at SWIC
The Frontier Community College Bobcats Baseball team traveled to Sauget, Illinois, on Thursday, April 2, to take on the Southwestern Illinois Blue Storm at Arsenal BG Ballpark, home of the Gateway Grizzlies.
The Frontier Community College Bobcats Baseball team traveled to Sauget, Illinois, on Thursday, April 2, to take on the Southwestern Illinois Blue Storm at Arsenal BG Ballpark, home of the Gateway Grizzlies. FCC fell to SWIC, 6-2.
Southwestern Illinois struck first in the bottom of the third inning when AJ Bertsch connected on a solo home run to left field.
The Bobcats answered in the top of the fourth, as Jordan Carter grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home the tying run. Frontier then took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning after a hit-by-pitch plated another run.
The Blue Storm responded in the bottom half of the sixth to regain control of the game. Southwestern Illinois scored three runs in the inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Max Oswald and AJ Bertsch, along with a Bobcat error, to take a 4-2 advantage.
David Barker earned the win for Southwestern Illinois, allowing four hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out one and walking one. Landon Davis took the loss for FCC, pitching six innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Carter and Dillon James each drove in a run for the Bobcats. Mayes Gosser led Frontier at the plate with three hits in four at-bats, while Gael Salinas added two hits in two at-bats. FCC also turned one double play defensively.
Southwestern Illinois finished with 11 hits in the game. Bertsch and Oswald each drove in two runs to lead the Blue Storm, while Jake McGhee collected three hits and Ryan Colucci added two. Southwestern Illinois turned two double plays.
