As the regular season winds down, the teams playing their best baseball are the ones gaining momentum at just the right time—sharpening every aspect of their game, building confidence, and positioning themselves for a strong postseason push. For Coach Matt McCue and his Bobcats, that momentum continues to build. Winners of eight of their last 10 games and riding a four-game winning streak, FCC traveled to Centralia on Thursday for their first meeting of the season with KC.
Frontier delivered a dominant performance, rolling past the Blue Devils 18-6.
FCC wasted no time setting the tone in the top of the first inning. Frontier capitalized on KC miscues, scoring three runs on errors, while Josh French added a sacrifice bunt to bring home another run and give the Bobcats an early advantage.
KC responded with power, as Austin Gray launched a two-run home run to center field in the fourth inning, followed by a solo shot from Zayn Giles in the fifth. However, the Bobcats remained firmly in control.
Frontier put the game out of reach with a massive eighth-run ninth inning. Kasey Lowe delivered a two-run single, Cam Napier added an RBI single, and Jordan Carter, Mayes Gosser, and Josh French each drew bases-loaded walks to drive in runs. Sean McConachie capped the rally with a two-run single, highlighting the Bobcats' disciplined approach at the plate.
Landon Davis earned the win for FCC, going eight innings while allowing six runs on six hits, striking out five without issuing a walk. Caleb Boff added a scoreless inning in relief. KC starter Kaden Nichols took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) over 3.2 innings.
The Bobcats totaled 14 hits on the day, with Napier and Lowe leading the charge with three hits apiece at the top of the lineup. French drove in a team-high four runs, finishing 2-for-4. Carter and McConachie also recorded multiple hits.
FCC showed patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks, with Gosser and Dillon James leading the way with two each. Gosser also added two stolen bases as Frontier swiped four bases overall. Defensively, the Bobcats were flawless, committing no errors, with Napier leading the team with six fielding chances.
For KC, Gray powered the offense with four RBIs on a 2-for-4 performance, while Giles and Gray each recorded two hits. The Blue Devils turned one double play defensively.
With the win, Frontier improves to 32-16 overall and 17-11 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. The Bobcats return home Saturday to host KC in a doubleheader at FNB Field, with first pitch set for noon. Coverage will be available on the Bobcat Nation YouTube channel.
