Bobcats Use Power and Persistence to Sweep SIC
The Frontier Community College Bobcats Baseball team delivered an impressive performance on Saturday, sweeping Southeastern Illinois College in a Region 24 doubleheader.
FAIRFIELD, Ill. – The Frontier Community College Bobcats Baseball team delivered an impressive performance on Saturday, sweeping Southeastern Illinois College in a Region 24 doubleheader. FCC powered its way to a dominant 20-3 victory in Game 1 before rallying for an 11-7 comeback win in Game 2 to complete the sweep.
Game 1 – Frontier 20, SIC 3
The Bobcats wasted no time setting the tone, erupting offensively in a 20-3 rout over the Falcons.
Frontier opened the scoring in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Kasey Lowe. The momentum continued in the second as Justin Early added an RBI single, while Cam Napier and Sean McConachie each delivered sacrifice flies to extend the early advantage.
A five-run fourth inning put the game firmly out of reach. McConachie drove in two runs with a single, Josh French added an RBI single, Lowe was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another run, and Gael Salinas capped the inning with a sacrifice fly.
On the mound, Ian-Olivier Beaulieu earned the win for FCC, allowing four hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings while striking out five. Drake Hartline added a scoreless inning in relief.
The Bobcats tallied 13 hits in the contest, with French, Early, Grady Combs, and McConachie each recording two hits. Combs and McConachie drove in four runs apiece to lead the offensive surge. Frontier also showcased discipline and speed, drawing 13 walks and swiping 10 bases in the game.
For SIC, Ethan Golish led the way at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, while Hayden Burks, Fernando Andujar, and Dawson Griffith each recorded an RBI.
Game 2 – Frontier 11, SIC 7
The second game told a different story early, as Southeastern Illinois College jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two innings. However, the Bobcats responded with resilience and timely hitting to complete the sweep.
FCC got on the board in the third inning when Josh French launched a two-run home run to left field. The Bobcats continued to chip away before taking the lead in the fifth, capitalizing on bases-loaded walks by Grady Combs and Asa Dunlevey.
After the Falcons tied the game in the bottom half of the fifth, Frontier broke it open in the sixth. Mayes Gosser doubled in a run, Cam Napier followed with an RBI single, and Combs delivered a two-run double to give the Bobcats a 10-6 advantage.
Gael Salinas added insurance in the seventh with a solo home run.
Nate Stivers earned the win in relief for Frontier, allowing just one run over three and two-thirds innings while striking out five. Kaelin Farr also contributed with a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
Offensively, Napier led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, while French drove in three runs. Gosser and Salinas each added multiple hits, and Dunlevey showed patience at the plate with three walks as FCC totaled eight free passes.
For SIC, Eliezer Chevere recorded two hits, and Hayden Burks led the team with two RBIs.
With the sweep, Frontier improves to 21-8 overall and 8-3 in Region 24 play.
