Both the Frontier Community College Bobcats and the Olney Central College Blue Knights saw their offenses produce on Thursday at FNB Field on FCC's campus, but it was Frontier that pulled away for a 22-7 victory. The Bobcats racked up 16 hits, while OCC finished with eight.
OCC struck first in the top of the opening inning. Landon Smelt singled to center field and Aidan Capone reached on a fielder's choice, with both plays bringing in runs to give the Blue Knights an early advantage.
FCC answered in a big way in the bottom of the third, flipping the game entirely. The Bobcats erupted for 11 runs on seven hits to take a 12-2 lead. A key moment in the inning came on an OCC error that brought in two runs during the rally.
Frontier continued to build on the momentum in the fourth inning, plating six more runs on four hits. Sean McConachie delivered a sacrifice fly to score one, Jordan Carter drew a bases-loaded walk, Mayes Gosser added a two-run single, and Josh French followed with a two-run single of his own.
OCC added a run in the fifth inning on a solo home run to center field by Renn Harper, but the Bobcats' lead proved too much to overcome.
Landon Davis earned the win for FCC, going five innings while allowing six hits and three runs. He struck out seven and walked one. Evan Moore took the loss for OCC after working two innings. In relief, Drake Hartline tossed a scoreless inning for the Bobcats without allowing a hit.
At the plate, Frontier's offense was balanced and explosive. Josh French and Cam Napier each collected three hits, while Jordan Carter and Mayes Gosser drove in four runs apiece. Sean McConachie added two hits in three at-bats, and Gael Salinas showed patience at the plate with three walks as FCC drew 10 walks as a team.
Defensively, the Bobcats were flawless, committing no errors. McConachie led the way with nine chances in the field.
For OCC, Renn Harper led the offense with two hits from the leadoff spot. Aidan Capone, Cayden McCrary, Landon Smelt, Harper, and Kaden Crawford each recorded an RBI, and the Blue Knights turned two double plays in the contest.
With the win, Frontier improves to 25-14 overall. The Bobcats will face OCC again Saturday in a doubleheader in Olney, with first pitch scheduled for 12 noon. All games are weather permitting.
