FAIRFIELD, Ill. – Coach Matt McCue and his FCC Bobcats Baseball team continued their strong late-season push this week with a pair of impressive victories over Vincennes University, winning eight of their last 10 games.
On Tuesday, April 28, Frontier rolled to a 14-3 win over VU, powered by standout performances from Chase Loesch and Josh French. Loesch led the offensive charge with a four-RBI outing on three hits, while French made history by breaking the Bobcats' single-season stolen base record.
If Tuesday showcased speed and timely hitting, Thursday belonged to power.
Behind a dominant performance from Asa Dunlevey, Frontier secured a 10-2 victory over the Trailblazers. Dunlevey put on a show at the plate, blasting two home runs—one in the second inning and another in the sixth—while driving in four runs.
The Bobcats set the tone early in the bottom of the first inning when Gael Salinas doubled to center field and Mayes Gosser followed with an RBI single, giving FCC an early advantage. Dunlevey extended the lead in the second with a two-run homer to left, and later added another two-run shot to center in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
On the mound, Aaron Buffington delivered a strong performance for Frontier, earning the win after allowing just two runs on three hits over five innings while striking out eight. Drake Hartline and Nate Stivers were sharp in relief, combining to shut down the Vincennes offense the rest of the way.
Offensively, the Bobcats racked up 13 hits, with Cam Napier, Jordan Carter, Gosser, and Salinas each recording multiple-hit games. Frontier also stayed aggressive on the basepaths, swiping three bases, and played a clean game defensively, committing no errors. Sean McConachie led the way in the field with 14 chances.
For VU, Lucas Frack and Deacon Lewis each recorded two hits, while Ethan Papalios drove in the Trailblazers' lone RBI.
With Thursday's win over Vincennes, FCC improves to 35-17 overall and 18-12 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.
The Bobcats will wrap up their regular season on the road today against the Trailblazers, with first pitch set for 2 p.m. CDT / 3 p.m. EDT.
